This webinar will give an overview of work being done by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and how they incorporate best practices in their work. Following the MCEC overview participants will hear about a specific MCEC program called the Purple Star Initiative and what Purple Star Schools do to support military-connected children and their families. Following these presentations, participants will hear about the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCTSN) and how MCEC and NCTSN are working together to form multi-tiered supports to ensure Military and Veteran Children and receiving the supports that fit their individual needs.
• Understand how national best practices for comprehensive school mental health systems are being adapted and incorporated to support military-connected youth and families
• Identify components of a multi-tiered system of support to reinforce the mental health and well-being of military-connected youth
• Describe the Purple Star School program and how it helps schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school
• Discuss how the combination of MTSS, comprehensive school counseling programs, and the Purple Star School initiatives help to support community partners working with military-connected youth.
